NASHVILLE – Joe Hash has been part of the Nashville songwriting community for more than a few years. Previously based in Toronto, his songs have been recorded by Canadian artists like Western Swing Authority, award-winning country artist Elyse Saunders, and acclaimed jazz vocalist Barbra Lica—including a song on a Juno-nominated album.
In the U.S., his songs have been recorded by cowboy rocker Ned LeDoux and a handful of independent artists. His music has also found its way onto television and streaming, including the CBS/Paramount series SEAL Team.
Before that, Joe was a lifelong musician who occasionally wrote songs. Then he attended a small workshop with guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, who inspired him to take songwriting seriously. Since then, he's been fortunate to receive generous encouragement, advice, and support from pros like Songwriters Hall of Fame member Jeffrey Steele (“What Hurts The Most”), Americana perennial Amy Speace, and ’90s-country icon Billy Dean, among others.
As a performing songwriter, Joe has opened for Don Schlitz (“The Gambler”) and shared a stage with Tony Arata (“The Dance”). He's performed in featured Bluebird rounds with Marc-Alan Barnette (“Too Much Blood in My Alcohol Level”), neo-traditional indie artist Scott Southworth (“These Old Bones”), and the incomparable Randy Brooks (“Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”).
While the big cuts are still somewhere down the road, there have been plenty of big moments. A favorite was the time George Jones asked for large-print lyrics so he could try out one of Joe's songs in the studio. It didn't get cut—but for a songwriter, that wasn't exactly a bad day at the office.
Joe figured out a long time ago that the destination isn’t nearly as important as the ride. And so far, it’s been a pretty good one.
